Corporate Social Responsibility
Here at 2Circles we are always looking for ways to improve and be better at who we are and what we do. Being in the telecommunications business at such a pivotal time in history means we are submerged in an ever-adapting industry, so being responsive is second nature to us but we are always on the lookout for opportunities to improve. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is something we all should be taking ownership of, regardless of what level in the business we work in. In a time where we are working so hard to make a positive impact on the world, from our homes and the kids are doing the same in schools, surely we should be doing the same in the work place?
It is easier than you would think to implement CSR into your workplace and guess what? It is SELF-REGULATED! So, no audits and no pressure that you don’t qualify as ‘Outstandingly Socially Responsible’, we can just start at what we can do to make a positive change and grow from there. Here is what CSR breaks down to:
The Environment – this is something that is probably already in place in some way, though your workplace recycling and maybe a cycle to work scheme on offer. Think about initiating a car share programme or if your office drinks a lot of take away coffee look at getting reusable cups, check this out https://www.recycle-more.co.uk/how-is-it-recycled-/coffee-cup-recycling
The People – we are big on this at the 2CC office. Richard Branson famously said, look after your employees and they will look after the customers and how right he is! Not only does this part of CSR mean encouraging well being and professional development opportunities, but also equal opportunities for all. The UK and Scotland have a great range of opportunities for free staff development out there, never stop learning.
Procurement – Social and ethical procurement is easier than ever and not as expensive as you may think. Next time you buy something or renew a service think: is this ethical? Why is it so cheap? Could I get the same service from a small business and directly support an independent business owner?
The Community – Building a culture in which you support the community and play a positive role in society is all about getting out from behind your desk and showing up. At 2CC we are big supporters of the Edinburgh Sick Children’s Hospital, having recently raised money through rafting when on the day we involved and supported local businesses alike. Volunteering programmes are a great way to get out of the workplace, network and give back.
By showing a commitment to social responsibility companies build can a positive reputation in competitive markets. Aside from networking opportunities potentially increasing the bottom line, better companies attract better employees. Corporate Social Responsibility is a way to ensure we are always striving to be better.
